Consumer Coffee Preparation & Serving Equipment

VS4 received the Specialty Coffee Association’s 2026 Best New Product Award in Consumer Coffee Preparation & Serving Equipment at World of Coffee San Diego.

Its story is in the details of the routine. Release the hopper to reach the burrs while preserving your grind setting. Clean, inspect and return to the coffee with the dial-in you established. Explore the engineering that makes that access possible.

Quick-release hopper

Straight to the burrs.

The hopper release and grind adjustment work independently.

Release the hopper to inspect the burrs and clear retained grounds. Your selected grind position stays in place, so routine access does not mean starting your adjustment again.

Routine cleaning and deeper servicing

Switch off and unplug the grinder before handling its grinding parts. Remove the hopper, use the supplied brush to clear loose grounds from accessible surfaces, and refit the hopper securely before reconnecting power.

Removing or replacing the burr assembly is a separate servicing operation. Follow the VS4 manual for refitting and any required calibration checks.

Low-retention design

Less left behind.
More of your next coffee.

Reduce carry-over between doses, and make the grind path easier to check.

Silver VS4 showing its vertical grinding path and dosing cup

Grounds left inside a grinder can carry yesterday’s coffee into today’s dose. VS4 uses a near-vertical grind path, low-adhesion anodised surfaces and bellows-assisted clearing to help coffee move through the chamber.

Active ionisation helps reduce static-related clinging at the outlet. The quick-release hopper makes the burrs accessible for inspection, so keeping the path clear works alongside the design itself. Coffee, grind setting and technique still affect the amount left behind.

Static and retention describe different things.

Static is electrical charge that can make grounds cling to surfaces or one another. Retention is coffee left inside the grinding path. They can be related, but reducing static is not the same as guaranteeing zero retained coffee.

VS4’s ionisation, accessible chamber and cleaning tools address different parts of that everyday workflow.

Burrs and adjustment

The next setting
is yours to find.

A 53 mm conical burr set. A continuous adjustment range. Space to respond to the coffee.

VS4 / Burrs and adjustment — The next setting is yours to find.

A coffee can ask for a finer setting as you refine an espresso recipe, or a coarser setting when you move to filter. VS4’s stepless adjustment lets you move between marked positions instead of limiting you to fixed clicks.

The adjustment mechanism is separate from the quick-release hopper. Turning the grind dial changes the burr gap; opening the hopper gives you access while retaining that selected position. One control refines the grind. The other lets you check the mechanism.

What does the 10 μm adjustment figure mean?

Each marked division corresponds to approximately 10 μm of mechanical burr movement. Coffee breaks into a distribution of particle sizes, so this figure describes the adjustment mechanism—not a promise that every particle changes by 10 μm.

Use the manual’s calibration procedure and keep clear of the burr touch point when grinding.

Drive system

Power, with
a sense of control.

A brushless motor and planetary gearbox connect the power inside to the pace of your grind.

VS4 internal motor and drivetrain assembly

The motor and the burrs have different jobs. The motor generates rotation; the gearbox reduces speed and increases the turning force delivered to the grinding assembly. VS4 pairs a 200 W brushless motor with a planetary gear system to drive the burrs at 150–300 RPM.

The speed dial lets you choose within that range. Grind setting controls the mechanical gap between the burrs, while RPM controls how quickly they turn. Keeping those adjustments separate gives you another way to explore a coffee without confusing one control with the other.

Why use a planetary gearbox?

A planetary gearbox distributes drive through gears arranged around a central gear. In VS4, the reduction connects the motor’s rotation to a slower, higher-torque output at the burr assembly. The purpose is controlled drive at the selected grinding speed.

Different speeds can change how coffee moves through a grinder. Compare them with the same coffee, dose and brewing recipe; a higher number is not a universal better setting.

Removable chamber

Deeper access.
When you need it.

For more thorough care, the grinding assembly lifts out as one module.

Lifting the VS4 burr carrier from the grinding chamber

Beyond quick hopper access, the burr chamber, driveshaft and bearing assembly can be removed together. The bayonet connection releases the module from the drive, bringing the working components into reach for inspection and cleaning.

Keeping these parts in a unified assembly supports their mechanical relationship. The safety interlock disconnects the motor circuit when the chamber assembly is disengaged. Switch off and unplug the grinder before maintenance, then follow the manual’s refitting procedure before grinding again.

Access, refitting and calibration.

The quick-release hopper preserves your selected grind position during routine access. Burr replacement and deeper servicing require the checks specified in the manual. Correct seating and refitting matter even when the dial has not moved.

Countertop design

Room for the ritual.

A narrow body makes room for the rest of your setup. Substantial construction gives the grinder its presence.

At 97.7 mm wide, VS4 leaves space alongside it for the tools you reach for next. The full dimensions are 161.4 × 97.7 × 337 mm, so planning your setup includes room above the hopper and enough clearance to remove the chamber.

The 5.27 kg construction brings the motor, gearbox and metal components into a compact object. A 58 mm dosing cup, bellows, cleaning brush and spare parts kit are supplied, connecting the first grind to the care that follows it.

VS4 is available in regional 100–120 V and 220–240 V configurations. Match both voltage and plug to your supply when selecting your grinder. Changing the plug shape does not change the voltage rating.

VS4 / GRIND REFERENCE

Fine control. A clear reference.

Use the adjustment reference for your grinder, then dial in to suit the coffee. Record your burr set and setting alongside the recipe.

Keep the reference with the burrs.

The independent adjustment assembly preserves the setting when the hopper and chamber are removed for routine access. After changing burrs or a full disassembly, check the zero reference using the manual.

Record the grind position, burr set and RPM when you find a cup you want to repeat. Never run the motor with the burrs in contact.
