VARIA LAB · PRODUCT GUIDE
FLO.
Understand your flow.
Learn what the interchangeable screen changes, brew a clear starting recipe and compare one adjustment at a time.

The screen sits beneath the coffee.
Water passes through the ground coffee, paper and outlet screen. FLO lets you change the screen geometry in the same dripper, adding a variable beneath the coffee bed.
The screen is one part of the resistance. Coffee, fines, grind setting, paper and pouring also affect drawdown. A screen name gives you a comparison direction rather than a fixed brew time or guaranteed flavour.
Compare screens with a recipe you already know.
Begin with the included set.
FLO includes Kurasu · Fast, Medium 1 and Slow 1. Medium 1 is the starting screen for the Kurasu recipe below. Four further patterns—Fast 1, Medium 2, Slow 2 and Slow 3—are sold separately.
First learn one screen with a familiar coffee. Once the recipe is established, swap the screen and compare the drawdown and cup. Keep the dose, water, paper, grind and pours consistent so you can understand that change.
The same dripper lets you compare a different outlet path.
Four pours. One clear reference.
Begin with 13 g of coffee, a medium grind, Medium 1 and Varia FLO wave paper. Fit and rinse the paper, discard the rinse water, add the grounds and level the bed. Place the setup on the scale and tare.
Add 50 g at each time below, leaving the scale running between pours. The final reading is 200 g of water poured. Finished beverage weight will be lower because the coffee retains water. Use 2:10–2:30 as the starting drawdown window, then refine the grind for your coffee.
| Time | Water to add | Cumulative scale reading |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00 | 50 g | 50 g |
| 0:30 | 50 g | 100 g |
| 1:00 | 50 g | 150 g |
| 1:30 | 50 g | 200 g |
200 g is the poured-water target, not the finished drink weight.
Find the effect of one change.
Repeat the starting recipe until you have a useful reference. Record the coffee, grind, screen, poured water, timing and what you taste.
Change the grind first if you are still establishing the recipe. To compare screens, return to the reference grind and hold the rest of the process constant. Different paper can change drawdown too, so keep the paper choice in your notes.
Change one variable and compare the cup.
Seat the screen for the next brew.
Allow FLO to cool before separating its two-part assembly. Remove the screen, rinse away coffee residue and clean the accessible components following the care instructions.
Refit the screen and silicone gasket correctly before reassembling. Fit compatible flat-bottom wave paper neatly and place the dripper on a stable, suitably sized cup or server for brewing.
Correct fitting keeps the comparison focused on the brew.
