EXPERIENCE PRECISION GRINDING LIKE NEVER BEFORE
The Varia VS4 is the next evolution of single-dose grinding — combining a 200 W brushless motor, precision planetary gearbox, and a 53 mm 6-core conical burr system for exceptional consistency from espresso through filter.
A world-first single-body burr chamber, fully CNC-machined and anodised, delivers ultra-low retention and a clean, efficient workflow. Electrodynamic flow geometry guides coffee through the chamber with aerodynamic stability, ensuring smooth particle flow, minimal static, and predictable extraction.
PRECISION ENGINEERING THROUGH 76.5° SLOPED GEOMETRY
• The VS4 builds on Varia’s signature 76.5° sloped architecture, directing beans efficiently into the burrs while maintaining a near-vertical exit path for clean, consistent output.
This geometry reduces settling, optimises particle density, and supports true single-dose performance — forming the foundation for VS4’s speed, cleanliness, and grind uniformity.
PRECISION INDEPENDENT HOPPER ADJUSTMENT
• The VS4’s stepless 10-micron adjustment system provides ultra-fine control across the full grind range, enabling barista-level precision for every brew type.
• An independent internal thread mechanism eliminates cross-threading, hopper drift, and wear, guaranteeing smooth and repeatable adjustments that maintain their exact calibration over years of use.
• Each movement feels deliberate, secure, and perfectly damped — the tactile expression of mechanical integrity.
HOPPER QUICK-CONNECT SYSTEM
• The VS4 introduces a patented quick-connect hopper system, designed for instant, tool-free access to the grinding chamber.
• Using a precision-engineered bayonet mechanism, the hopper collar locks and releases with a 10 degree turn — granting complete chamber access in under one second.
• When disengaged, the system also automatically disconnects the power circuit between the motor and chamber assembly, ensuring absolute safety during cleaning or maintenance.
• Reconnection is equally simple: the hopper aligns and locks with a smooth, precise motion that restores full power and calibration instantly.
MODULAR DRIVE & CHAMBER ASSEMBLY
• The VS4 introduces a patented modular chamber and drive assembly, allowing the entire burr and driveshaft system to be removed from the grinder body in one seamless motion.
• The hopper quick-connect mechanism attaches and releases via a precision-engineered bayonet system. Once released, the entire burr chamber, drive shaft, and bearing assembly lift out as a unified module — laser-aligned, self-contained, and mechanically isolated from the motor housing.
• Because the burr alignment, shaft bearings, and chamber geometry exist as a single machined ecosystem, the VS4 maintains consistent concentricity and zero mechanical drift over time. Every reconnection re-establishes factory-grade accuracy — no recalibration, no misalignment, no compromise.
SUPERIOR BURR DESIGN
• The VS4 uses a 53 mm 6-core conical Supernova burr set, engineered for clarity, uniformity, and smooth particle flow.
• Its geometry has been meticulously modelled to balance cutting speed and particle flow, reducing resistance and ensuring even distribution across the entire grind range.
• Future-proof burr interface allows for upgradable burr sets releasing in early 2026 (installed with light disassembly).
POWERFUL BRUSHLESS MOTOR & PLANETARY GEARBOX
• The VS4’s 200 W brushless motor operates with near-silent efficiency, producing exceptionally smooth torque while minimizing mechanical vibration. Its planetary gearbox transfers power through a multi-gear reduction system, stabilizing rotation speed under load and maintaining constant burr performance at all times.
• This precision drivetrain ensures that torque delivery remains stable even when grinding dense light roasts or at finer espresso settings. Testing confirmed RPM stability within ±1.5% tolerance across the full speed range (150–300 RPM), translating directly into consistent particle size and predictable flavor outcomes.
ELECTRODYNAMIC FLOW GEOMETRY
• Every contour inside the chamber is shaped with Electrodynamic Flow Geometry, a proprietary surface topology engineered to guide ground coffee along a precise, turbulence-free path.
• This design prevents static charge accumulation and directs particles in a smooth, laminar flow — reducing friction, clumping, and waste.
• Combined with the fully anodised single-body chamber and grounds spindle, the result is an ultra-smooth surface with exceptionally low adhesion. Coffee moves freely through the grind path, maintaining consistent density and distribution from burr to chute.
• By pairing advanced chamber geometry with low-friction anodised surfaces, the VS4 achieves a level of consistency and cleanliness rarely seen in compact grinders — a precise orchestration of airflow, particle motion, and electrostatic control.
LOW RETENTION DESIGN
• The VS4 introduces a world-first, patented single-body burr chamber, CNC-machined from a single solid block of alloy and fully anodised for ultra-low material adhesion. This seamless construction eliminates part lines and joints, creating a continuous internal channel that optimises coffee flow and dramatically reduces grind retention.
• Every surface within the chamber — including the grounds spindle — is precision-milled and anodised to a micro-smooth finish, ensuring minimal static, near-zero coffee build-up, and exceptional long-term durability. Paired with Varia’s quick-connection bayonet system, the chamber can be removed tool-free for cleaning and instantly reinstalled with perfect alignment and calibration.
Tested Retention Figures (10 g dose):
Without RDT
• Espresso (Setting #3): 0.10–0.35 g
• Filter (Setting #10): 0.05–0.15 g-
With RDT
• Espresso (Setting #3): 0.00–0.06 g
• Filter (Setting #10): 0.00–0.02 g
Test conditions: 150RPM (45% humidity, 7 days rested medium/light roasted arabica blend). Results can differ depending on the coffee variety and roast degree of coffee used as well as the freshness/degassing status of the coffee and environmental factors. Bellows were used for test doses without RDT (3-4 pumps) and no Bellows were used for test doses with RDT.
RPM CONTROL
The VS4 uses a variable stepped RPM system that allows you to set your preferred grinding speed once — and lock it in.
With a single push, the grinder powers on and runs at the exact RPM you’ve selected. There’s no need to reset or re-adjust between doses. Your speed stays fixed, stable, and repeatable every time you grind.
This level of RPM stability does more than simplify workflow:
• It shapes fines production
Higher RPM can increase particle fracturing, while lower RPM produces a tighter, cleaner distribution. Fixed RPM ensures the same behaviour with every dose.
• It stabilises particle distribution
A controlled, predictable motor speed means consistent shear forces on the burrs — essential for clarity, sweetness, and repeatability across espresso and filter.
• It helps control retention
A uniform RPM reduces micro-vortex turbulence inside the chamber, supporting cleaner evacuation and more consistent low-retention performance.
DUAL-BEARING DRIVE SYSTEM
• Mechanical precision begins with perfect alignment.
• The VS4’s driveshaft is supported by a dual-bearing system — two precision bearings housed within the lower chamber, paired with a concentric mounting pad machined into the grinder body to stabilise the shaft under load.
• This architecture ensures perfect concentricity and stability of the burr assembly even at high torque levels, maintaining parallelism throughout the grind cycle.
• Each bearing is seated in a rigid CNC-machined carrier to prevent drift or deformation over time. The result is a drive system that eliminates axial movement and vibration — preserving alignment, reducing wear, and guaranteeing long-term mechanical integrity.
• When combined with the brushless motor and planetary gearbox, this alignment system delivers smooth rotational balance and consistent grind performance, dose after dose.
FINE CALIBRATION & ALIGNMENT
• Beyond its stepless collar, the VS4 includes a micro-calibration system built into the outer burr carrier.
• A five-hole pattern allows users to mechanically shift the burr’s zero point by ±20 microns for ultra-precise alignment. This ensures perfect parallelism between burrs and allows the grinder to be tuned with laboratory-level precision — compensating for burr wear or alignment variance over time.
